Angela's Ashes (Ellis Carroll Light and Location Remix)
Angela's ashes uses a constant stream of dark, foreboding light, tight, claustrophobic camera angles, and an extreme almost ridiculous amount of water and blue light. All these things come together to make a very dark and depressing feeling which fit the narration and story of the movie perfectly. Most scenes involving the family as a whole, take place in tiny, dark, wet rooms that that they call home. These scenes are very small, and dark, and display the lack of wealth the family has, and how dirty the location they live in. Another recurring theme in the movie is the fathers storytelling. Every time, he tells a story to any of the boys, the shots seem to get a little larger, the locations seem to get bigger. Showing the love for the fathers storytelling, how when stories are told, everything gets a little better. But at the same time, the locations are large, but oppressive. when the father and Frank are walking along the hill, the camera angle is large, but there is a heavy fog in the background. The camera angle tells us how, no matter what stories the father tells, they can't belittle the fact that he has a huge drinking problem that is ruining the family.
