Disturbia: Lighting and Setting

While watching the documentary, the director said it was intended to be a average teen romance movie, with a good twist; a serial killer living next door to Kale, the main character. The setting in Disturbia was a suburban neighborhood in California (the town/city isn't mentioned). Lighting played an important part in the movie; having some scenes of worthy mention. When Kale looks into his dead father's study, the moderate amount of sunlight entering through the window gives a warm feel with a vintage look (his father being a writer). Also, when Kale is looking for his mother in the killer's basement, it is very dark with a small amount of colorless light, portraying fear.
